get helpThe Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries is an interfaith service that provides food and fellowship to those in need and educates our community on hunger and poverty.

Meal site location:  Fridays from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 109 Main Street, Centerbrook

Barbara Hesser, Site Coordinator, and volunteers cook and prepare meals for this location.  Most of the meals are prepared at homes.  Approximately 50 meals are served each month.

Here is a snapshot of one of the many Centerbrook meal site teams:

Date of Visit: July 25th, 2014

Meal Time: Friday Lunch from 12 noon to 1:00 PM

Today's Team: "The 4th Friday" at Trinity Lutheran Church of Centerbrook

When: You guessed it - the 4th Friday of the Month!

Team History: This group met when they all responded to a call for volunteers three years ago. They were at the SSKP Volunteer Orientation, and the rest is history. The team works well together because they all enjoy each others company, and everyone is flexible.

Special Meal: Once the team asked a long-time guest, whose wife had passed away, to remember his favorite meal that his wife used to make for him. He told them about her special meatloaf, and the next month they served a delicious meatloaf with mashed potatoes.

Team Highlights: Many members of this team also volunteer twice a month when SSKP helps distribute food from the CT Food Bank Mobile Pantry, which makes visits to Old Saybrook and Clinton. Another special touch at this site was how the guests are served. All the food is plated up in the kitchen, and each plate is brought out to the guests at the table, like in a restaurant. The tables are decorated with charming nautical centerpieces made of lanterns, shells and beach glass.

The Menu: Delicious pulled pork sandwiches, fresh fruit salad, homemade coleslaw, potato salad, and pastries.

Something Special: One of the key members, Lee Webb, was out today for a very special reason - last week she gave birth to twin boys!
